Shrill is fine. It is sweet, and gentle, and mild. It is occasionally funny and often didactic. It is not, by any definition of the word, shrill. “Be loud,” counseled the tagline on the eye-catching poster that began to appear in the subway a few weeks ago. One might have graffitied an addendum beneath it: “Do as I say, not as I do.”
